Officer Gardner was like a mentor to me when I was a valued employee at McDonalds off Camp Creek Pkwy.

He encourage me to stay in school, leave the boys alone, work hard and it will pay off later. Officer Gardner was like a father figure to me, even though he really wasn't. Often on my breaks we would talked about my future plans upon graduation and his family.

Well Sgt. Gardner, with your blessings, I did graduate from Benjamin E. Mays High School, was accepted to several art schools, and attended Bauder College/Majored in Fashion Design.

I have always wanted to be an entrepreneur, so I attended Turner Job Corps Center in Albany, Ga. and majored in Retail Sales/Business Management.

I have always been interested in law enforcement, now that I am 21 years old, I would like to be apart of the East Point Criminal Investigation Division (C.I.D.),
because  Sgt. C. Gardner you truly inspire me.

Sincerely Your Adopted Daughter,
Kimberly Victoria Isreal

Officer N. Wilkins

Date:  05/09/03

Det. Wilkins lives a few blocks from my family.  Our dog Chipper had gotten away and was lost for a day.  Fortunately for Chipper, he found his way to Det. Wilkins home where she put him up for the night.  The next day she drove around the neighborhood asking if anyone had lost a dog.

Det. Wilkins kindness will never be forgotten by my family.  We would like to thank her again and let her know how much we appreciate her act of compassion and kindness.

Sincerely;

The Eatman's

Officer: Trent Williams

Date:  04/03/03

Officer Williams was patrolling and stopped a suspicious person that had items from one of our apartments that contained an address for the apartment.  He went to that apartment and found the window broken.  The suspect was arrested and our tenant received all her stolen items back.  Great work Officer Williams.  Our residents work very hard for what little they have.  It is wonderful that our police officer was able to catch this thief and our resident did not lose her belongings.

Dear Mayor Hilliard,

Last year, I took guardianship of my 13 year-old nephew.  Within two weeks, it became clear that he had multiple issues after a parent complained to me that he had threatened her child.  I immediately enrolled him in the YAIP program through the police department.  Although my nephew no longer resides in East Point, the experience introduced me to phenomenally supportive people.

Officer E. Heinz was our first contact at the department.  He offered immediate support to my nephew, by giving him his card and contact information.  He also called with a status report including recommendations after his first day in the program.  Community-minded and committed are two adjectives that describe Officer Heinz's professional demeanor.   Admiration and respect are two feelings I personally hold for Officer Heinz.

Major L. Graham has assembled an outstanding group of individuals to manage this program.  "The apple doesn't fall far from the tree" and he deserves any accolade as his involvement and dedication to this program appears endless.

It's usually these hardworking people that neither see nor hear the appropriate amount of appreciation both personally and professionally.  Please accept my gratitude for amassing a superior group of individuals within the City Of East Point fovernment.

Sincerest Regards,

Greg Dillard

Dear Chief Brown,
I would like to take this opportunity to thank your Department and particularly, two of your Officers.

On Friday February 7, 2003, my vehicle was broken into at my office at the old Library building. The suspects stole a laptop computer from the vehicle. Fortunately, an off duty Fulton County Deputy was across the street in the bank drive thru and noted the suspects descriptions and attempted to pursue them. Meanwhile Officer Danny Powell responded to the incident location and immediately gathered information. The Deputy returned to the incident location and provided further details and the descriptions of the suspects. Officer Powell immediately began a search for the suspects in the area they were last seen in and even got a tip from a pedestrian who had seen the suspects. Unfortunately, the suspects had too much of a head start and they were not able to be located in the City. Ultimately, due to some good luck and two sharp Atlanta Police Officers, my laptop computer was recovered and a suspect taken into custody.

I would like to commend Officer Powell on his professionalism and his dedication to doing an outstanding job on a day-to-day basis. I would also like to thank ID Tech Eric Bailey who also quickly responded to the scene and collected evidence, which may be needed in a future trial. These men are two great examples of the highly professional agency that you head.

Sincerely,
Roger W. Brand

I come 285 and get off at Camp Creek and continue to Cambelton almost everyday.  I just want to thank each and every single officer that works this area as well as any area.  I am so amazed that we have people that can do things toward an officer and not think twice about it.  I want each and every officer to know, they are appreciated.  I have gotten a ticket in East Point, but that was my fault for speeding.  I gladly paid the ticket, because that officer slowed me down that day and probably saved my life.  I know this has to be a hard time for you and all the other officers at your station as well as many officers and civilians around the state and country.

It really hurts me to know that people can do such as happened to Officer Betts and walk away without it hurting their heart so bad that they wish they were dead themselves.  I can only hope you find the lady involved and that you will prosecute her to the fullest extent of the law.

One of the only things that makes it easier for me is that Officer Christopher Betts died doing what he loved.

God Bless you and every Peace Officer in the world.  Thanks for keeping life safe,

Shawn Wooten

Dear East Point's Finest,

Since moving to East Point, my wife and I have been thoroughly impressed with the East Point police.  It is comforting to hear citizens of other communities say, "East Point police don't play."  You are all truly appreciated!

There are more pressing issues on your agenda, however, parking in handicapped spaces by those without disabilities is a pet peeve of mine.  Tonight, October 10th at 7:30 p.m., a compact car with the ###### ###### license plate #### ### parked in the left hand "van accessible" handicapped space at CVS on Cleveland Avenue.  I was sitting in my vehicle in the space to the left of this space with additional vacant spaces to my left.  The driver pulled into the handicapped space, with no regard for the disabled, casually left the vehicle, noticing the signage yet still entering CVS as if nothing was wrong.  He had no handicapped display on his windshield, rearview mirror nor on his tag.  Again, I understand your having more pressing matters on your hands and enforcement cannot be everywhere at all times, but a reminder to the public about their duty to obey simple, common sense and courteous signage might help us all in the future, especially those who live with disabilities.

Let me again thank you for the work you all do.  It is often a thankless job and you often times must deal with those who are less than pleasant, less courteous and often ruthless.  We appreciate your dedication to duty and commitment to service.

Thank You,
Glenn Dowling

Sgt. R. Hudson and Officer Dunlap came out concerning an animal control problem, along with an attack on myself and my dog by SIX Golden Retrievers.  Animal Control was also present. These officers were very professional in EVERY way.  They informed me of my rights as a victim, and what could be done by animal control.  I thank them both very much!  They were very friendly, courteous, and informative in every way.

While driving on I-20 my front tire blew out.  Detective Todd stopped to render me assistance.  He was very courteous and helpful in my time of need.  I am sure that he is a very valuable member of the East Point Police Unit.  Many thanks.

Officer (Corporal) McCollough has been attending our neighborhood association meetings.  Last Thursday night we expressed concern about a basketball goal on Cedar Avenue.  Kids were blocking the street and were at risk of being hit.  Officer McCollough said that he would take care of it on Friday and stayed true to his word.  By the time I got home from work Friday afternoon, the basketball goal was gone.  I'd like to thank him for taking care of this concern.  We love having him patrolling our neighborhood.  Thanks again.

Dear Chief Brown,

I am writing to express my appreciation for the efforts of one of your employees, Lt. Audrey Harrelson.  Over the course of a few months last fall, Lt. Harrelson helped me immensely through a very frustrating experience as a victim of identity theft.  Your detective was patient with me explaining what procedures I needed to follow and was vigilant in pursuing the few leads available to her.  She answered all of my questions - some of them several time - and also was honest with me when her investigation could go no further.  She was always professional and courteous.  In fact, I had to file reports and work with officers from the Atlanta City and DeKalb County police departments because of the nature of the crime, and Lt. Harrelson was the only law enforcement agent that took my complaint seriously and truly investigated the incident despite my not being an East Point resident.  Her diligence allowed me to provide information to the credit card companies that I did not have and made the process work more smoothly for me.  I have finally received the last letter absolving me of responsibility for the fraudulent charges, and I just wanted to let you and Lt. Harrelson know that I am grateful for her work and assistance.

Sincerely,

Allyson Williams

I just wanted to take a moment and thank you for your quick response when we called you this evening. We have had a problem with a group of 7-8 teens (some maybe older) wandering this neighborhood and cutting cross property on our home, our neighbors and other homes in the area (McCoy Place/Ben Hill). We see them at various hours and we are concerned. We called this evening to have our police check on it. Within 2-3 minutes you responded with two cars. This kind of quick response reminds me why we are glad to live in East Point.

Thanks again!

I am a resident in the 2900 block of Harlan Drive and I have noticed an increased police presence. Over the past three weeks, police have cut down on possible drug activity on our block and slowed the alleged drug users walking on this block. I have seen it before 8:00 am and after 6:00 pm, so it appears to be more than one shift. I have also noticed several traffic stops on Cleveland between Blount and I-85.

Thank you for the addition of the substation in this area and the proactive attention. Your efforts are into going unnoticed. Thank you!

Date:  14 February 2002

Dear Chief Brown:

Let me take this opportunity to express my appreciation to you for allowing two of your finest officers to come to visit my Spanish classes at Woodward Academy last year. Specifically I am referring to Sergeant Juan Grullón and Officer Lascher who took of their time to address my classes on a number of important issues such as the dangers of drug abuse. This class was far and away the most popular and was highly informative.

If these gentlemen are available in about one month I would like to invite them back. Sergeant Grullón has visited on two occasions and has been very professional and very effective with his presentations.

Thank you once again for your cooperation.

Best regards,
