Although the enforcement end of policing is still an integral part of the job, because of the community policing division, it is not the only effective way to co-exist with the people in the community. We discovered that taking the time and effort to speak with children and adults before a crime has been committed on issues such as crime prevention, safety, etc. will allow all parties to be more of an asset to each other. <BR> <BR>With this different approach, the community policing division has brought about a more positive view of the police department and its officers. We teach the public various techniques to enable them to steer away from potentially dangerous situations, suspect identification, properly marking and recording property, property assessment, and self defense mechanisms and techniques to name only a few of the services we offer. Being that we encounter a varied range of people from different age groups, backgrounds, lifestyles, etc. we make every possible effort to tailor our presentations to fit the requested area of interest of the individual or group. <P>The community policing division is responsible for coordinating various events, promoting services through direct contact and media relations, participating in specially sponsored community activities, serving as the liaison between the members of the community and the vast array of city departments and divisions. We continue to strive to be a positive influence on all we encounter through the classes we teach, services we offer, and our over-all involvement. <DIV ALIGN=right><I>Officer L.
