FIELD OPERATIONS

The City of East Point is divided into 7 zones or beats. One patrol officer is assigned to each zone.  Each shift has a shift commander.  The Field Operations/Patrol Division answers approximately 235 calls for service a day.

Officers attend a regional police academy and go through a vigorous Field Training Program to be an East Point Police Officer.

Many Field Operations patrol vehicles are equipped with in-car laptop computers and in-car video cameras. The laptops and software give officers the ability to write reports in the field.

The Field Operations Division currently utilizes two T3ís. The T3ís are electric standup vehicles. The T3ís give officers the opportunity to engage in positive community relations and interaction. The T3ís are utilized for additional patrol, festivals, and special events. The T3 vehicles offer high visibility, and are able to negotiate in areas of limited space, as well as streets, sidewalks, parking areas, and retail areas.

The Field Operations Division is currently establishing a bike patrol unit to be utilized as another policing resource for our community. The bicycle patrol will enable officers to have closer contact with citizens in the community and offer additional visibility in residential areas.

To be eligible to ride on the bike patrol unit, Officers must complete a week long training session where they receive specialized instruction. Training includes riding up and down stairways to cone courses, emergency dismounts, and a vast array of maneuvers on a patrol bike.
