Crime:  Homicide
Location:  4498 Washington Road (Mark Inn)
Date:  July 11, 1997

On July 11, 1997 a guest at the Mark Inn reported a body in the alley behind the building. The body was that of a black male identified as Steve Tramel. The victim was living in room 126 of the Mark Inn at the time of his death.

Death was caused by gunshot wounds, and physical evidence at the scene indicates that the crime took place inside the Mark Inn, possibly in the third floor hallway.

The accident that killed Officer Christopher Betts, 26, happened about 1 a.m. early Sunday morning, December 22, 2002 along Interstate 285.

He died when scuffling with a suspect along the roadway's shoulder spilled on to the highway and into the path of oncoming traffic.

The suspect, 34-year-old Renard Banks, was also killed. Betts' partner -- James Weinmann -- was seriously injured in the incident.

Three vehicles -- including a van -- hit the men. Two of the cars stopped -- the third did not.

The third vehicle is a mid-to-late 1980s brown Honda Accord with significant damage to the car's front end.

The driver is believed to be an African-American woman wearing a white lab coat. She was additionally described as possibly being in her mid-30s with shoulder-length hair.

The woman stopped long enough to get out of her car, but didn't stay.

There are no charges pending against the woman, we want to talk to her and put the missing pieces of the case together for the officer’s family.
